Tour the Slovenian demo case
The demo building in Ravne na Koroškem, Slovenia, is nearing completion, and it’s a great example to show how industrialised renovation can transform existing housing into efficient, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces.
To give an inside look at this achievement, project coordinator Martino Gubert from Eurac Research’s Institute for Renewable Energy guides us through a series of four short videos, each highlighting one of the innovative technologies implemented in the building.
In this first episode, we introduce the Slovenian demo building and its industrialised retrofit approach.
The building features prefabricated façade kits that integrate multiple systems: from insulation and cladding to building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), and even includes a new timber floor, adding living space without expanding the footprint.
The second video focuses on the Smart Window Kit, which uses electrochromic glazing to automatically adapt to light conditions, preventing overheating and improving indoor comfort.
In the third episode, we show how the building integrates VORTICE ventilation units within the prefabricated façade and ceiling structure.
These units provide heating, cooling, and fresh air circulation, ensuring optimal comfort while maintaining energy efficiency: a key example of how industrialised retrofits can embed complex systems seamlessly.
The final episode highlights how technology and nature coexist in the building’s design.
A centralised ventilation system supports airflow throughout the apartments, while modular green walls installed on the balconies bring visual and environmental benefits, improving air quality and creating pleasant outdoor spaces for residents.
