Lessons from real‑world industrialised deep renovation at IEECB&SC Conference
Our lessons from the implementation of industrialised deep renovation have been presented at the IEECB&SC Conference through the paper “Industrialized Deep Retrofit Solutions: Implementation and Lessons Learned from INFINITE H2020 Project Demonstrators”, authored by Martino Gubert (Eurac Research) and project partners.
The contribution documents the implementation phase of Industrialized Deep Retrofit (IDR) solutions developed within INFINITE, based on two full‑scale demonstrator buildings in Italy and Slovenia. Rather than focusing on performance simulations alone, the paper addresses the practical deployment of prefabricated renovation systems, including design development, manufacturing, logistics and on‑site installation.
The paper presented at IEECB&SC emphasises several implementation‑driven insights:
- the importance of early assessment of existing buildings to manage geometric irregularities and structural constraints;
- the need for flexible interface and connection solutions between prefabricated elements and existing structures;
- the role of BIM‑based coordination and integrated design in reducing on‑site risks;
- the benefits of off‑site manufacturing for quality, logistics and installation speed;
- the relevance of combining technical solutions with viable financing and densification strategies.
The IEECB&SC is a renowned conference featuring 40 international speakers from 16 counties represented: this was a great outlet to show the real construction processes and constraints learned from the INFINITE demo buildings in Italy and Slovenia, and provide evidence of technical feasibility and replicability for industrialised deep renovation at scale.
