Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub: making industrialised deep renovation easier to understand and apply

Renovating Europe’s existing building stock is one of the key challenges of the energy transition. While many innovative solutions already exist, their large‑scale uptake is often slowed down by fragmented information, lack of comparable data and uncertainty about real‑world performance.

To address this gap, the INFINITE project has developed the Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub: an open online platform that brings together technologies, real renovation cases and clear explanations of industrialised deep renovation.

The Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub supports professionals of the construction sector, decision‑makers and building owners in understanding how industrialised renovation works in practice and what it can deliver compared to traditional approaches.

What is industrialised deep renovation?

Industrialised deep renovation combines deep energy renovation with industrialised construction methods. Instead of carrying out most activities on site, key building components are designed and manufactured offsite, in factories and then assembled quickly on site.

The Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub explains this approach step by step, using plain language and visual examples, and clearly distinguishes it from conventional renovation methods.

From concepts to real buildings

A central feature of the platform is the collection of real demo buildings, retrofitted with prefabricated integrated envelope panels. Each case and panel technology is described with technical data and images, making information easier to compare and interpret. You can see, for example, the Italian demo building of INFINITE in Greve in Chianti.

Comparing solutions and business models

The Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub also supports evidence‑based comparison between industrialised solutions and traditional renovation approaches. Through the “Comparing Kits” section, users can explore differences in installation time, predictability, level of prefabrication and long‑term performance.

In addition, the IDR Business Models section explains how industrialised renovation can be delivered and financed in practice, highlighting recurring patterns across projects and the roles of different actors in the value chain.

Open to new contributions

The Industrialised Deep Retrofit Hub is openly accessible and designed to grow over time. New demo cases and technologies can be added, following a review process that ensures data quality and consistency.

All original textual content published on the platform is released under an open‑access license, supporting reuse and knowledge transfer beyond the project duration.
