Retrofitted building in Ravne na Koroškem opens to the public
The Slovenian demonstration building of the Horizon 2020 INFINITE project has officially opened its doors to the public, and it’s already making headlines!
Located at Ob Suhi 19 in Ravne na Koroškem, this building stands as the first example of advanced industrialised building renovation in Slovenia, showing how energy efficiency, digitalisation, and prefabrication can come together to transform the country’s building stock.
To share the project’s achievements with stakeholders, industry professionals, and local administrators, the INFINITE partners organised a demo tour on 5 November 2025.
Participants included industrial firms, designers, architects, and engineers: they had the opportunity to see first-hand how the renovation was carried out in a remarkably short time, achieving high-quality results thanks to prefabricated and modular solutions.
To achieve this, the team combined multiple advanced technologies:
- Timber-based prefabricated façades for faster installation and high thermal performance
- White photovoltaic wall panels that generate clean energy while integrating seamlessly into the building envelope
- Electrochromic smart windows that automatically adjust light and heat transmission
- Ventilation modules embedded in wooden façade panels
- Green walls and advanced heating and control systems to enhance indoor comfort and air quality
This demonstration is more than an energy retrofit: it represents a new paradigm for urban renewal and social inclusion.
A new wooden floor with additional apartments showcases how industrialised renovation can also densify existing buildings, making better use of urban space.
By involving Slovenian industry partners in the production of components, the project strengthens national know-how and builds new high-value industrial value chains connecting construction, manufacturing, and digital innovation.
The event included presentations by project partners, a guided tour of the demo site, a technology showcase, and opportunities for networking and discussion.
